Welcome back to school! I pray that everyone had a safe and restful weekend!
Today we started our day by practicing writing our names!
We also did some creative writing in the writing center! Look how our writing skills are improving!
As I have said many times, a large part of early childhood education is learning social skills such as making and maintaining friendships, conflict resolution, and self-regulation. These skills will help children throughout their lives! "The absence of positive social interactions in childhood is linked to negative consequences later in life, such as withdrawal, loneliness, depression, and feelings of anxiety." (Ladd 1999)
During free choice the friends were playing dog school in the dramatic play, so we decided to turn pretend preschool into dog school!
We did some research on-line on how we wanted dog school to look, and we made a list of items we need to turn pretend preschool into dog school.
Some of the friends got to work right away building dog houses!
During morning meeting we practiced recognizing shapes as we played a fun tricky mouse game. In this game, the children close their eyes while the mouse hides in a shape 'house.' Each child has a turn guessing in which 'house' the mouse is hiding.
As Alma ans Sammie were reading our special Jesus books, they noticed that three of the books have the same picture even though the books are different! Great observation girls!
During small group time, we thought about some signs that we need for our dog school area. Then, we worked together to sound out and write the words for the dog school signs.
Then we painted with cut straws!
We also worked on making dog houses for dog school.
Then we went on a shape hunt in the classroom! We looked at our normal classroom items and saw that most of them were shapes that we already know! The children took turns using the iPod to take pictures of the shapes that they saw. Here are their pictures:
During Jesus time, our friend Zippy the puppet came to visit. He was worried about moving into a new house. We talked about somethings that Zippy could do. We learned that the best thing that Zippy can do when he is worried is pray! Jesus ALWAYS listens and answers our prayers because He loves us very much!
