Zion will be hosting an Open House on Feb. 10th from 1-3 p.m.  This would be a great time to come in and view our Preschool/Kindergarten classrooms and talk to our school staff!  Please invite friends and family who are interested in learning more about the great things that are going on at Zion Lutheran School!

Just a reminder: There is no school Friday, February 15th and Monday, February 18th.

We had a great day in school!

Check out what we did today!

We enjoyed making masks this morning!  We practiced refining those fine motor skills and engaged in creative thinking as we used paper plates, yarn, scissors, and crayons to create our own masks!

Brian and Andrew worked together to go through the letters.  As they picked up each letter they sang our letter sound song.  "The ___ says ___. The ___ says ___. Every letter makes a sound the ___ says ___."  Great job boys!

We then headed to the gym for P.E.  We had fun playing Mr. Fox Mr. Fox.  This game not only allows children to run and play, but it also provides an opportunity to practice counting and one to one correspondence!

Mrs. Lail led our chapel this morning.  We saw a picture of hands, feet, a mouth, and eyes.  We discussed ways we can use each of those body parts to share God's love!  At the end of chapel, Mrs. Lail's kindergarten class handed out hearts with a cross written on them.  This will remind us to use our bodies to show God's love!

We made yummy polar bears out of marshmallows and toothpicks. We learned that when you lick the marshmallows, they will stick together really well.  The children practiced creative thinking and expressing themselves. I think the best part for the children was when they were able to eat the marshmallow polar bear at the end!  :)

We played a polar animal roll and graph game.  This activity allows the children to practice one to one correspondence, visual discrimination as they match the animal on the dice to the animal on the graph, and comparing as they check to see which animal we rolled the most and which we rolled the least.

We worked on decorating our Valentine's Day bags!  We will hand out Valentine's in our classroom on the days of our parties.  (Tuesday, February 12th and Wednesday, February 13th)  The children refined their fine motor skills and engaged in creative thinking as they decorated their bags!

If you decide to hand out Valentine's day cards, please bring enough for everyone in the entire class.  We have twenty students in the class.   Please have your child write his/her name in the "From" section.  On the "To" section, please write "a friend", that makes it much easier to pass them out when they are not assigned to a certain friend! :) If you would like, you can include a small sticker, eraser, etc. to the valentine- although this is not necessary.

We worked on making a sun catcher out of tissue paper and plastic wrap.  We will use these to decorate our classroom for Valentines Day!

We had fun graphing gummy bears too! (We did not eat any of the gummy bears.  The children who worked on their gummy bear graph took their gummy bears home today.  If you child did not take gummy bears home today, he/she will do so on the next day he/she comes to school.) The children sorted their gummy bears by color and graph each bear.  Again, this activity allows the children to practice one to one correspondence, visual discrimination as they sort, and comparing as they check to see which color bear has the most and which has the least.

We also practiced recognizing numbers as I called out a number, and the children used a marker to fill in the dot containing that number.  The children did a great job working together to help each other when needed.  They showed God's love to each other!

Allison was so kind and brought back seashells for all of our class from her trip to Florida.  Thank you Allison!
