I hope everyone had a fun and safe surprise long weekend!

A few reminders:
Grandparents' Day is Thursday, March 7th.  You should have received an e-mail with information about Grandparents' Day.  You will also receive the information as a hard copy in your child's cubby.  Please return the form at the end of the information packet by Friday, March 1st so we know how many to prepare for.  Thank you so much!

Friday, March 8th we have early dismissal at 12:00.  There is no school lunch program on this day, so please pack you child a sack lunch.  Thanks!

We had a lot of fun today exploring maps!  Check out what we did!

Leah and Bella worked hard to draw pictures on the board together.  They are practicing social skills as they practice sharing the markers and the board.  They are also exercising their fine motor skills and expressing creativity!

Some of our friends worked on their hibernation caves!

Stephanie, Addison, Leah, and Bella investigated maps.  They were working to figure out which way to go!

Some of the friends worked to sort the clear jewels from the colored jewels.  As you know by now, sorting is a foundational math skill!

Mrs. Smith's class came to our room and we practiced our songs for Grandparents' Day!

During Jesus time, we learned about Jesus praying in the garden.  We learned that even though He was scared to die, He did it because He loves us so much.  We also learned that just as God listened to Jesus as He was praying, God also listens to all of our prayers!

We then went to Mrs. Smith's room and learned how maps and globes are similar and different.  We discussed that a globe might not be the best thing to use on a trip because it takes up so much room, but a map can fold and put in your pocket. (We also discussed how maps can be on a phone and GPS to help us with directions!)  Mrs. Smith cut the globe to show us that a globe is just a round map of the world!

We practiced letter recognition and letter sounds as we followed different letters on letter maps.  The children are developing as readers and writers!

We discussed various emotions, and positive things we can do if we are sad, angry, or upset. Discussing various emotions and role playing how to handle them can help the children learn to regulate their own emotions.  Self-regulation is a skill that will benefit the children throughout their lives! We worked to make a classroom emotions chart (our chart will replace the chart pictured below) which we will display in our room.  This will be able to help us learn to manage our emotions when we do feel sad, angry, or upset.  Below is a sneak peek of the pictures we will use on our chart!
