Oh you can't keep Jesus' love in a box
love in a box
love in a box
Oh you can't keep Jesus' love in a box
'Cause His love will come a bubblin' through

Oh you can't keep Jesus' love in a jar
Love in a jar
Love in a jar
Oh you can't keep Jesus' love in a jar
'Cause His love will come a bubblin' through

So I'll just keep Jesus' love in my heart
love in my heart
love in my heart
So I'll just keep Jesus' love in my heart
'Cause His love will come a bubblin' through

Zion will also be hosting an Open House on Feb. 10th from 1-3 p.m.  This would be a great time to come in and view our Preschool/Kindergarten classrooms and talk to our school staff!  Please invite friends and family who are interested in learning more about the great things that are going on at Zion Lutheran School!

We started the day working in small groups; we went on a nature watch.  (It was a little too cold to go on a nature walk.)  On our nature watch we looked for animals, and circled the ones we saw.  We discussed that if we saw the animals, they must not hibernate.  We will go on a nature walk, weather permitting, again later on in the week.  during our nature watch, the children noticed animal footprints in the snow.  We decided to check out the footprints later in the day when it was a little warmer.
The children are learning about the world around them, and they are also learning how to represent collected information in a way that others can understand. Furthermore, the children are learning how to find answers to their own questions.  These are all foundational skills that will help to foster the love of learning as the children grow!

During Jesus time, we reviewed the story of Jesus blessing the children.  We learned that no matter how we feel, Jesus always loves us!  We reminded one another that we are children of God by making the sign of the cross on a friend's head and saying, "You are a child of God!"

The children have been very interested in spelling various words.  They have been working together, using the sounds of the letters to sound out words on their own.  This is an early reading skill! Furthermore, the children are learning how to listen to one another's ideas and share their own idea in a kind way!

In Early Childhood, we pose questions to children to help them investigate and problem solve.  The marble 'slides'center is one great way to engage children and assist them in their own problem solving.  The children worked hard to make the marble go down his slide, but the marble kept falling out.  After asking a few questions such as: "Why does it keep falling out?"  "Where is it falling out?"and "How could we keep it from falling out?" The children, after a few attempts, were successful at solving the marble slide issue on their own.

We finished our "We are God's Family" mural today!  This mural will hang in our classroom to remind us that we are all children of God!

We continued making our life time lines today.  The children are learning about how they have personally changed over the years, and they are also learning that all things change.  This is an important life concept.

A large part of Early Childhood is learning positive social skills.  Learning these important social skills will help the children throughout their lives!  (Think of all the people we interact with as adults on a daily basis.)  Learning how to make and develop relationships with both children and adults, how to resolve a conflict with a friend, and how to share opinions in a kind way are all social skills that the children are able to practice on a daily basis in school.

We had fun as we practiced recognizing and writing letters!  We wrote the letters in shaving cream!  This activity makes writing fun and helps the children to develop as writers.

We also made play dough today!  The recipe is below if you would like to make some at home too!  The children helped sounding out and writing the words.  We practiced measuring, pouring, counting, and working together as a group!

Once it warmed up a bit, we went outside and investigated the animal footprints outside of our classroom.  We hypothesized what animal could have made those prints.  At the end of the day, we checked on-line to see if we could find any matching footprints.  We decided that they were made by a squirrel!  We discussed how squirrels must not hibernate if they are out in winter.  We are beginning to compile a list of animals that do not hibernate in the winter.  We will later separate this list into animals that adapt and animals that migrate.
