Zion will also be hosting an Open House on Feb. 10th from 1-3 p.m. This would be a great time to come in and view our Preschool/Kindergarten classrooms and talk to our school staff! Please invite friends and family who are interested in learning more about the great things that are going on at Zion Lutheran School!
We had a great Monday in school!
Check out what we did today!
We enjoyed the nice weather outside. Although it was muddy in some places, we were thankful for the warm weather and the shining sun!

During Jesus time we sang praise songs to God! We talked about the reasons we love school, and we thanked Him for our wonderful school!
Today, we discussed bats and how they hibernate in the winter. We also discussed how some bats migrate and hibernate! We then discussed what we already know about bats, and we talked about a time we have seen a bat. It is important to help children relate personal experiences and prior knowledge with new information. This will help the children assimiliate the information they have learned to their prior knowledge. Of course Batman came up in the discussion! We discussed how Batman does not hibernate, and so he must not be a real bat.
The conversation sounded like this:
"What do you know about bats?"
"Batman. He is a good guy."
"Do you think Batman hibernates like bats do?"
"No way!"
"So do you think Batman is a bat then?"
"No, but he just dresses like a bat when he goes to fight the bad guys."
We worked on creating a representation of a bat, and we discussed the various body parts of the bat. We discussed how we liked the bat's big ears! The children are learning more about the world around them. They are also learning how to create an accurate representation. Furthermore, they are refining their fine motor skills!
We also started working on our hibernation caves today! The children were able to start painting their caves. The caves will take us a while to complete, but when they are done, we will use them along with the representations of the animals that we have learned about, to help re-enforce what we have learned!
We also made more bats to hang in our hibernation cave! We discussed that only animals that hibernate can be hung in the cave. On their own, the children began discussing other animals that could go in the cave.
We had a fun pajama day!
