It was rainy outside, but we had a fun day inside!

Check out what we did today!

Donuts for dad is Wednesday, January 16th from 7:00-7:45 in the church basement.  Come and enjoy donuts and fellowship! Dads are also invited to stay for chapel which will start at 8:10 in the sanctuary.

Re-enrollment packets for preschool went home this week.  They should be in your child's folder.  If you did not receive one, please let me know and I will be sure that your packet is sent home. If you have any questions about the preschool or kindergarten program, please feel free to e-mail me.

Zion will also be hosting an Open House on Feb. 10th from 1-3 p.m.  This would be a great time to come in and view our Preschool/Kindergarten classrooms and talk to our school staff!  Please invite friends and family who are interested in learning more about the great things that are going on at Zion Lutheran School!

Preschool programs fill up fast, so please don't delay in filling out the paperwork, especially if you want certain days!  We will open up registration to the community on Feb. 1st.

Wednesday, January 16th we will be worshiping with grades 1-8 for chapel.  PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL NO LATER THAN 8:05. THANK YOU!

We again started the day by writing our names on the sign in sheet.  The children are doing a great job waiting for their turn, sharing the space, and helping one another.  They are learning valuable social skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

During Jesus time, we again discussed prayer.  We learned that when we are sad, scared, lonely, or angry we can always talk to God and He will listen to us and help us.  We sang the song, "All You Have to do is Pray" by Arison.  We thanked God for always listening to and answering our prayers!

We read a story called The Ice House today.  We discussed what it would be like to live in a house of ice!  We looked at pictures of some ice hotels (found in Sweden, Canada, and Alaska) and we discussed why we would or would not like to visit the ice hotels.  Engaging children in such discussions allows the opportunity for children to defend their opinion and listen to the opinion of others.  This is a valuable social skill!

Leah checked the weather for us and confirmed that it is rainy and cloudy.  Using weather words such as rainy and cloudy helps children to learn more about their world and lays the foundation for further learning in science/discovery.

We had so many different puppet shows today!  The children did a great job remembering to sign up to do a show, and following the puppet theater rules.

We created with the plastic cups today.  Our structures are becoming larger and more complex!  The children are learning problem solving skills as they learn why their structures fall down and discover solutions.

We did the estimation jar again today.  The children are not only learning to estimate, but they are also learning counting, one to one correspondence, and how to write some numbers.

We continued to work with the balance today.  We again investigated how many of one kind of jewels it took to equal a different kind of jewels.  We recorded our findings by writing the numbers.  Using a balance and finding an answer to a question through self-motivated discovery are life long learning skills that will benefit the children especially in the area of science!  Furthermore, the children are practicing counting and one to one correspondence.

We enjoyed using blue and white chalk to create in the art center today!  The children are practicing fine motor skills and engaging in creative thinking!

Brian worked so hard practicing his name during center time.  Great job Brian!!

We went on a letter hunt today.  We used 'spy glasses' to see the different letters we could find throughout the Sonshine Center.  When we saw a letter, we wrote it on our clipboard!  We practiced recognizing and writing letters.  We are developing as readers and writers!
