Just a reminder that school ends at 12:00 on Wednesday, November 26.  There is no half day care on this day. There is no school Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28 to give you time to celebrate Thanksgiving with your family.

We continue to grow in our writing skills!  As the children become more comfortable writing their first names, we encourage them to write their last names as well.  If they are already comfortable writing both names, we encourage them to practice writing other friends' names too!

Doctor play

We are very interested in the new alphabet chart we made together earlier in the week.  I will send an email as well, but this is an interactive chart between home and school.  If you notice letters or letter sounds at home with your child, take a picture of the item, cut a picture out of a magazine or cereal box, and we will add it to our chart!

We also practiced counting and number recognition with our cheerio number chart.

Julia and Brynne worked hard to sort the beans this morning!  (Notice the white and maroon pile in the sensory table.)  Great work girls!

We are thankful for our time outside today!  Some of you have asked what is the temperature that determines outdoor play.  If the "feels like" temperature is above 10 degrees, we will go outside.  :)

During morning meeting, some of the friends noticed that some letters look the same.  We worked in partners to discuss the letters that look similar.  We discussed that similar means kind of the same, but also kind of different.

We also learned a new word in our book today! The children asked what a foe is. We learned that a foe is an enemy.  At the end of the book, there was a picture of two girls.  We discussed whether we thought the girls were friends or foes.  The children practiced giving their reasoning as well as politely agreeing or disagreeing with each other.

You can practice this at home with your child.  Encourage your child to tell you why he/she thinks something.  This helps expand vocabulary and promotes language development.

During small group time, we exercised our fine motor skills as we practiced recognizing and forming letters with play doh!

We also worked on a collaborative mural!

We also practiced ordering numbers.  As you know, God created His children differently, and success is different for all children.  Success in this activity for some children is recognizing numbers 1-10, 1-15, and/or 1-20.  Success for some children is correctly ordering the numbers.  Success for some children is using one to one correspondence when counting the cups.

We celebrate all levels of success in preschool, and we work to help the children achieve their personal best.

The friends have been very interested in working together to create elaborate structures during free choice time.  This is great practice for them in problem solving, cooperation, and collaboration!

The doctor office was busy!  We extended our learning by prompting the children to ask questions to determine the cause of a sickness before giving medicine and/or shots.  This helps expand the play, and also promotes critical thinking skills.

We love the listening center!

During Jesus time, we praised God just like David did!  We sang songs with the guitar thanking God for His goodness.  We especially thank God for sending Jesus to die on the cross and rise again to save us from our sins!
