What a great day to be a Zion Bobcat!
We had fun exploring in the rice this morning.
Brynne and Avery counted to see how many scoops it took to fill the bowls. They are practicing counting and one to one correspondence in a meaningful way!
Some of the friends played Frozen during free choice this morning. As they act out the story, they are using their play to make sense of the world around them!
Devereux couldn't wait to show off his new tap dance!
Brian and Bella worked really hard on a magna tile structure. I took a close up of the structure; notice the intricate "diamonds" in the middle of their structure! (If you can see them. The glare makes it hard to see them.)
Some friends worked to set up the dominoes. They had to use great fine motor strength and control to ensure that their dominoes would not fall over. They also had to practice persistence because quite often the dominoes fell over.
Jack and Jacob worked to make a ramp. When the ramp was not working they problem solved together saying, "Let's try to take on block out of this part. Maybe it will work now!"
Bryson was so proud of his magna tiles structure!
Welcome back Allison! Allison visited Florida for the last week. She was so kind and brought each person back a seashell from the beach!
Earlier in the school year we practiced 'breaking up' words into smaller units of sound. We have had quite a lot of practice breaking up words, so we now added clapping out the words as we break them up. This activity helps children understand that smaller units of sound are put together to create one word. It also increases phonemic awareness which is a valuable pre-reading skill!
We worked with Mrs. Douglas on clapping out words during small group time.
We also practiced writing in the writing center!
We continued to increase our phonemic awareness with a rhyming game with Mrs. Buchholz!
We played a critical thinking game today too! I called a few friends at a time to come and stand in the front. The children then guessed what was the same about the friends in the front.
What is the same about the friends in this picture?
*(I will have the answer at the end of this post!)
HURRAY!!! We were able to play outside today!!!!!
There is the new early childhood wing here at Zion!
During Jesus time we discussed how Jesus takes care of our needs. He took care of our greatest need on the cross-the need for a Savior! Because of His death and resurrection, we can have eternal life with Him in heaven! If you have any questions about Jesus, I am more than happy to help you answer them!
Mrs. Buchholz shared with us her experience in Taiwan. She was a missionary over in Taiwan! She showed us pictures of Taiwan and talked to us how the life is different.
The air is pretty bad in Taiwan, so most people wear a mask to protect themselves from the smog. The children were very interested in the pictures that Mrs. Buchholz shared. We will allow the children to explore the pictures more in a special center next week!
*They are all wearing black pants!
