Happy Friday!

Don't forget that our class is singing this Saturday, February 1st at the 5:00 service here at Zion!  :)  

Today Claire checked our radar map.  She informed us that it is snowing in Massachusetts!


Hunter made a yummy "orange puff coffe" to share! Yum! 


Alma and Bella worked to fill and stack cups of rice.  They wondered how many cups they could stack before they fell over.  They tested their wonderings as they played.  They are learning the scientific method in a child-initiated way! 



Earlier in the school year we practiced 'breaking up' words into smaller units of sound.  We have had quite a lot of practice breaking up words, so we now added clapping out the words as we break them up.  This activity helps children understand that smaller units of sound are put together to create one word.  It also increases phonemic awareness which is a valuable pre-reading skill! 

We worked with Mrs. Douglas on clapping out words during small group time. 

We practiced clapping out each of our names.  We made a graph of how many claps were in our names! 












We continued to increase our phonemic awareness with a rhyming game with Ms. Emma! 

We value all success in preschool!   Success for some children is providing two rhyming words independently.  Success for other children is  providing a rhyming word to a picture shown.  Success for other children is identifying if two words rhyme or not.   





We then went on a name clapping hunt!  Each friend was given a clipboard and a piece of paper to encourage meaningful writing.  The friends independently chose to draw graphs to track the information we collect! 

The friends are learning so much through this activity.  First of all, they are practicing breaking words into syllables.  Secondly, they are practicing collecting information and representing that information.  (The graphs)  They are also practicing writing, number recognition, and counting! 






First we visited Mrs. Mudd and practiced clapping out her name.  We then added the information we collected to our individual graphs.  Some friends chose to write Mrs. Mudd's name by sounding out the letters.  Other friends chose to ask Ms. Emma and me how to spell her name.  Other friends chose to draw a picture of Mrs Mudd.  All of the friends practiced writing their numbers next to their representation of Mrs. Mudd.  




We then went and clapped out Ms. Derrington's name.  We noticed that Ms. Derrington has more claps (syllables) than Mrs. Mudd! 



We have been able to go outside two days in a row!!  Praise God! 


They are making progress on our new Early Childhood wing!  




During Jesus time we played a memory in which each child remembered what the children before them said that they wanted to eat for lunch.  After each turn, we thanked God for all of our food!  Jesus provides for our needs!  He provided for our greatest need, the need for a Savior, when He died on the cross and rose again!
