Thank you to everyone who was able to make it out to the program last night!  The children did such a fantastic job!

Remember, this is our last week of school before Christmas break.

 Nativity fun during free choice!

Will and Victoria explored the letters with me.  We played a fun game that increases phonemic awareness- the ability to play with the sounds of language. Children with strong phonemic awareness are more likely to be successful readers. We made our friends' names with the letters, then we changed the first letter.
"What if Will started with a B?  It would be Bill!"

You can play this game in the car, waiting at the doctor office, anywhere!  You don't need any letters.  You can just use the sounds of the words to help the children change the beginning sound of the word.

Exploring, comparing, and measuring.

Creating in the gift making center

Fun in the commons!

During small group time, we practiced writing letters and words in our journals!

We also had fun decorating a snowman on the SMARTboard!

We practiced counting, nuber recognition, and quantifying with a roll and decorate the Christmas tree game!  (Quantifying is being able to see how many are in a set without needing to count.  For example, if I were to roll a three, being able to quantify that means being able to see that there are three dots without needing to count them.)

Second free choice time was filled with present making, continuing to decorate the snowman, and acting out the Christmas story!

During Jesus time, we learned about the star that the wise men followed to find Jesus.  We learned that every time we see a star, we can be reminded of the best gift of Christmas- Jesus! Jesus loves us so much that He was not only born on earth, but He died on the cross and rose again to save us fro our sins!  THAT is the best gift ever!!
