Today we practiced writing our names using our name tags!

Sammie was excited to show her dad how she writes her name!

We have wonderful, fantastic aids in our class!  Without them our classroom would not run as smoothly.  If you think of it when you see them, thank our aids for their hard work.  :)

Ms. Lindsey works with our class on Mondays.  She also works with the Parents Day Out children and in After Care throughout the week.

Mrs. Mudd works with our class Tuesday through Friday.   We were blessed to have her in our classroom last year as well.

We have been using the blocks to build creative and intricate structures.  Today we made roads for the cars using the blocks.   As I have said before, children learn through their play. It is important that children have time to play freely because it is through play that children make sense of the world.  Through play, children also develop social skills and problem solving skills.  Furthermore, children develop the critical thinking skills necessary to ask questions and figure out how things work.

We worked together to make a large road in our classroom using the blocks.

Because so many friends were driving their cars on the road, we were having some crashes!  I asked the children how we could solve this issue.  Andrew thought we needed a stop sign to be sure that everything was safe and clear before continuing on the road.  Great problem solving Andrew!

Social skills play a vital role in children’s emotional health and well-being. Research has documented that children with poor social skills are at risk for difficulties including peer rejection, behavior problems, and poor academic achievement (Gilliam & Shahar, 2006).  Therefore, a large part of early childhood education is learning social skills!  Each day children have the opportunity to learn skills such as positive conflict resolution, cooperation, self-regulation, and showing God’s love to our friends.

Look how Megan and Bella showed that they are learning to be responsible as they worked together to clean the mess they made in the bean table!

Because we have been so interested in building roads for cars, we decided that we should learn all about cars! Over the next few weeks, we will use The Project Approach, as inspired by Reggio Emilia, to learn about cars.  The Project Approach is an in-depth, interdisciplinary, investigation of a particular topic of interest to the children.  To learn more about the Project Approach, click HERE.

We are blessed to have volunteers from Zion Lutheran (the "Wednesday Guys")  who help our school stay beautiful!  Our friends were very interested in what the Wednesday Guys were doing in our classroom.  We thanked them for fixing our lights!!

We played outside for a shortened time today.  We loved having our water bottles with us to keep us hydrated!!

Joey and Claire brought popsicles for our class to help us stay cool outside.  They were yummy!!  Thank you Joey and Claire!

When we came inside, we worked on a creation mural full of pictures of things that God made!

The children worked with me to tell me what they know about cars already. During the first part of a Project, teachers gather student's prior knowledge and experiences with an area of study to engage children and to help develop questions which will guide the Project.

During Jesus time, we went on a creation hunt to look for various pictures of things God created hidden throughout the classroom! Then, our friend Zippy the puppet came and told us about Adam and Eve who made a bad choice in God's creation.  Zippy reminded us that God loves us no matter what, and He always forgives our bad choices just like He forgave Adam and Eve.

We can't wait for another great day in preschool tomorrow!!
