If you would like to bring a re-fillable water bottle for your child to have at school, please do so.  We want to be sure that the children are well hydrated, especially in this hot weather.  Please be sure to write your child's name on the water bottle.  The children will have access to these water bottles throughout the day.

Today we practiced writing our names using our new name tags!

Look at the intricate structures we created!  The children worked together to make various buildings, towers, and houses!  They also worked together to resolve their conflicts!  Problem solving and conflict resolution are important social skills that will benefit the children throughout their lives!

After all that work, they were hungry!

We went outside for a shortened time today.  We were thankful for our water bottles!

We brainstormed what it means to be a friend together.

We practiced being a friend to each other as we split into pairs and shared a paper as we painted!

We had extra time in the classroom to play, explore, and have fun!  It is important that children have time to play freely because it is through play that children make sense of the world.  Through play, children also develop social skills and problem solving skills.  Furthermore, children develop the critical thinking skills necessary to ask questions and figure out how things work.

One important aspect of play is teacher/adult engagement in the children's play.  Teachers and adults can pose questions, help problem solve, and extend play to encourage further learning.  For example: If a child's tower is repeatedly falling over, the teacher/adult can ask questions to help the child critically think about why the tower might be falling over.  The teacher/adult then can problem solve with the child a few solutions, and then test these solutions with the child.

Some of the friends explored the counting bears with me.  The children worked on some math skills without even knowing!  They were sorting and using comparative language.  These math skills lay the foundation for future learning!

We met Mr. Scissors today as we discussed safe ways to use scissors.  Ask your child to see if he/she remembers the safe way to carry scissors.  (Wrap your hand around the closed blades and carry them by your sides.)

Because we have used the blocks so much, we discussed how we can keep each other safe as we play.  We decided that we don't use the blocks as swords, and we have to carry them gently so they don't accidentally fall on a friend.

During Jesus time, we remembered that God created the light with His powerful words!  We looked at pictures of other things God created-such as animals! We learned that after God created, He saw that it was very good.  We cheered "GOOOOOOO GOD!" after we identified the animal that God created.
