It's a great day to be in preschool!  :)

Check out what we did today!!

In the morning we continued to develop relationships with our friends.  Learning how to cooperate and problem solve with friends is a skill that will benefit the children throughout their lives!

We worked our fine motor skills this morning with play dough, lacing. and stringing beads.  Strong fine motor skills are important because the fine motor muscles are needed for tasks such as writing!

Today was the second day that we picked our classroom jobs.  Classroom jobs provide an opportunity for the children to take ownership of the classroom! Furthermore classroom jobs provide an opportunity to practice responsibility.

During small group time, we continued to discuss our emotions.  We discussed how some words we say can hurt friends, and some words that we say can help friends.  We role played together and each gave an example of words that hurt and words that help.  We discussed how we use words that help in school; we don't want to use words that hurt!  We made two posters with examples of each.

This activity provides an opportunity to discuss our feelings and how words can affect our feelings.  We focus on feelings in early childhood because learning about feelings can help children identify and express their emotions in a more positive way.  In addition, learning about feelings can help children respond to other's emotions appropriately.  When children can identify other's emotions and respond in an appropriate way, they are able to show God's love!

The discussion of words that hurt made us feel sad.

But the discussion of words that help made us feel happy!

We then looked in the mirror and discussed how God made each one of us special.  We shared what we saw in the mirror. We learned that when God made us, He looked at His creation and saw that is was good!

We then drew a picture of what we saw in the mirror!

We had even more fun as we painted a self portrait on the mirror! These activities not only help the children to identify how God made each of them special, but also provide an opportunity to build self esteem.

We started measuring each other with blocks.  This led to a discussion how we are all different sizes.  We discussed that it's okay if God made some friends taller than others.  We learned that God loves us all the same, no matter our size!

During Jesus time we learned that God knows everything about us and He loves us very much!  We learned that we don't need a cell phone to talk to God; we can talk to God anytime!  We thanked God for loving us so much.  We sang the butterfly song again to thank God for making us each special!
