Although it was stormy, we had a great day of school!
Check out some of the highlights of our day!
We learned about community helpers today! We discussed various people that help us in the neighborhood. We sang a song, "Who are the people in the neighborhood?" as we thought of people that help in our community.
During Jesus time, we practiced singing "Rise and Shine!" with Mrs. Smith's class.
During Jesus time, we practiced singing "Rise and Shine!" with Mrs. Smith's class.
We continued to work on our collaborative artwork inspired by Piet Mondrian.
We practiced counting and number recognition with a fun rainy day game! We are developing foundational math skills that will benefit us throughout our lives.
We also practiced making patterns and sorting today! Patterning and sorting are both foundational math skills.
We also looked at various pictures to find the one that was different. This activity will help the children develop visual discrimination skills. Visual discrimination skills are important pre-reading skills.
We played together in the Post Office today. We brainstormed other things we need for our post office. The children decided that we need a mailbox for the post office. They said it should be blue! We searched all over for a box just the right size, and we found a blue tissue box! We made a label for the box by sounding out words. Allowing the children a chance to think through what we need and then put their ideas to use allows the children to gain confidence and practice critical thinking skills!
We also practiced writing our first and last names for our class 'address book.' The children will be able to use this book as they write letters to each other in the post office center. This book will allow the children more experience in environmental print and fine motor growth!
We enjoyed playing and working together in the Doctor office today too! The children practiced sharing the items in the office; as they practiced sharing, they practiced positive conflict resolution. This is a social skill that will benefit them throughout their lives.
The children are also practicing writing as they check-in at the doctor office. They are practicing reading as they look at each other's names and call the next patient into the doctor office.
We played rock, paper, number once again today. Once the children added their sum of fingers, they used the pointer to find the number that matched their total. This game helps the children to develop foundational math skills such as counting, one to one correspondence, and number recognition.
We continued to practice rhyming with a fun collaborative game! Rhyming is an essential pre-reading skill!
