Don't forget to sign up for a Spring Parent Teacher Conference by Friday if you would like to schedule a conference.  :)

Looking Ahead to May:
Wednesday, May 22nd  - LAST DAY OF PRESCHOOL
Thursday, May 23rd      - Preschool Popsicles and Playground event 9-11 a.m. at Laurel Park.  (We will not have Preschool that day.)
Friday, May 24th          -No Preschool

Here are a few highlights from our day!

We reviewed various shapes this morning!

We also reviewed sorting by different attributes. Sorting is a foundational math skill!

We then read the Easter story together!  We thanked Jesus for suffering on the cross and rising again!  We are so blessed by the gift of salvation!

We learned how to play a new (to some of us) game today!  Rock, paper, number!  In this game, each person chooses a number (instead of rock, paper, or scissors) and shows the quantity of the number with their fingers.  Then, the partners work together to count how many total fingers they are showing.  This game allows the children to practice number and quantity matching, one to one correspondence, and counting.
The children enjoyed playing rock, paper, number with their partners!

This was our last day taking apart the VCR.  The children enjoyed using the screwdriver to loosen the screws to see what we could take out.  We discussed that we only take things like this apart when we have permission.  This activity allows the children a hands-on experience in exploration, reasoning, and critical thinking!

We continued working on another collaborative classroom art piece inspired by Piet Mondrian.  We used black lines to make squares and rectangles, just like Mondrian.  We will then paint one of the squares a color that we noticed in his artwork.  The children are learning to work together and to compliment each other on their hard work!

We traced/rubbed pennies in the writing center.  We made observations about what we saw in our tracings such as letters and numbers.  We also used our tracing of the pennies to make our own creations such as snowmen, people, and balls!

We continued using yarn to make electric wires in our city!  We worked together to staple the 'lines' to the different buildings.  We discussed how our buildings are looking a little worn, and it might be time to do a demolition soon.

We also practiced letter recognition as we played tricky mouse in small groups.  The children LOVE this game!  If you would like to play at home, I use letter cards and a cut out mouse.  I then have the children close their eyes and hide the mouse under one of the letters.  The children then open their eyes and give a guess to which letter the mouse is hiding under.
We then say together, "Little mouse, little mouse, are you in the letter ____ house?"

This game is a great and fun way to practice letter recognition!

We also made sun catchers using wax paper and crayons. We drew a picture on the wax paper and folded it in half.  Then, I used an iron to melt the crayon.  Our final masterpieces are hanging in the classroom!  The children really worked their fine motor skills as they had to color hard for the crayon to show up on the wax paper.
