Here are some end of the year reminders!

Students in PDO-2nd grade will celebrate Week of the Young Child on May 5th-9th.  During this week, we celebrate the blessing of young children, especially all of the young children here at Zion!  As part of the celebration, there will be optional dress-up days this week.  These days are listed below:

Monday:  Sports Shirt Day-wear a sports shirt of their favorite team
Tuesday:  Favorite Color Day
Wednesday:  Spirit Day-Wear red or white or Zion wear
Thursday:  Stripes Day
Friday:  Mismatched Day

We have had such a fantastic year.  I am so thankful for each of your children, and I am also thankful for your support and love throughout the year!  The last day of preschool is Wednesday, May 21.

Join us for "Popsicles at the Park" on Thursday, May 22 from 9:00 - 11:00 am at Laurel Park.  Come and play with your preschool friends and enjoy some yummy popsicles to kick off the summer!

Our friends worked collaboratively together to complete a puzzle this morning!

Our friends were very interested in the tangrams again this morning.  Tangrams are a great way for children to actively explore shapes and spatial relationships.  As the children manipulate and create with the tangrams, synapses in the brain to connect the children's prior knowledge concerning shapes to what they learn as they explore.  These connections are much stronger than if the children were to simply identify the shapes on a flash card.

Some of the friends explored at the light table too!

Jacob explored the letters at the light table today!

What would a Friday be without a preschool dance party?!

Did you know that research has shown that large motor activity increases cognition?  Preschool dance parties are not only fun, but they are also preparing our brains for learning!

And some stretches to cool down after too!

During small groups we had fun as we painted with our watercolors.

We also read a book entitled Milk: From Cow to Farm.  The children then had a chance to color their own book!  As they worked on their books, the friends explained to one another the process that milk goes through before we buy it at the grocery store using the pictures in the book.

We continued ti explore and create with the tangrams too!

Outside time!

The friends thought it would be funny for Ms. Emma and I to race each other on the bikes!

Good thing they were willing to help us!

During Jesus time we reviewed the story of Jesus' ascension into heaven.  Even though we can't see Jesus, we know that He is always with us and He loves us very much!  We discussed that we can share this good news with everyone!  We changed the words to "Go Tell It on the Mountain" to "Go Tell It in St. Louis" (Then "Go Tell It Here at Zion," "Go Tell It in St. Charles," etc.) to remind us that we can share the good news with everyone!
