Happy Thursday!

Here are some end of the year reminders!

Students in PDO-2nd grade will celebrate Week of the Young Child on May 5th-9th.  During this week, we celebrate the blessing of young children, especially all of the young children here at Zion!  As part of the celebration, there will be optional dress-up days this week.  These days are listed below:

Monday:  Sports Shirt Day-wear a sports shirt of their favorite team
Tuesday:  Favorite Color Day
Wednesday:  Spirit Day-Wear red or white or Zion wear
Thursday:  Stripes Day
Friday:  Mismatched Day

We have had such a fantastic year.  I am so thankful for each of your children, and I am also thankful for your support and love throughout the year!  The last day of preschool is Wednesday, May 21.

Join us for "Popsicles at the Park" on Thursday, May 22 from 9:00 - 11:00 am at Laurel Park.  Come and play with your preschool friends and enjoy some yummy popsicles to kick off the summer!

We loved creating with the LEGOs this morning.  What a great way to engage in creative thinking and strengthen fine motor skills!

Megan explored the letters at the light table today!

Avery and Violet explored in the sensory table!

Early childhood is a great time to foster the love of reading!  Although the children are unable to read the words, they are learning valuable concepts of print!

Our friends were very interested in the tangrams this morning.  Tangrams are a great way for children to actively explore shapes and spatial relationships.  As the children manipulate and create with the tangrams, synapses in the brain to connect the children's prior knowledge concerning shapes to what they learn as they explore.  These connections are much stronger than if the children were to simply identify the shapes on a flash card.

During morning meeting, we brainstormed various foods that are made from milk.  Yogurt is one of the foods that we listed! We planned to explore yogurt more during small group time.

The friends were interested in how to spell yogurt and milk, so together we sounded them out, wrote them on word strips, and planned to use them during small group time.

During small group time, we continued to explore shapes with the tangrams!

We practiced writing in our journals.  Some of the friends chose to write the words we wrote together during morning meeting.

We also compared and contrasted milk and yogurt! One of our favorite parts of this activity was tasting the yogurt!  The children discussed together that the yogurt is healthy and tasty!

Yay for outside time!!

During Jesus time, we remembered together that even though we can't see Jesus, He is always with us.  Each friend had the opportunity to use the special corn cob microphone to say what they know about Jesus.  Here were some of the responses:

"He made me.  He made everything."
"He loves me."
"He died on the cross."
"He rose again."
"He is with me all the time."

That is the best summary of the Gospel!   Jesus loves us. Jesus died and rose again for us.  He is with us all the time!
