Today we celebrate Bailee!  We thank God for bringing Bailee into our class!
Happy Birthday Bailee!!

This morning many of the friends chose to paint at the easel!  Painting at the easel helps children to develop fine motor skills needed for strong pencil grip and letter formation.  Furthermore, it allows the children an opportunity to engage in creativity!

The creativity continued in the art center!

We decided that we need a throne for a king and queen before we build the castle!  The children were so excited to make the thrones.  They had many ideas of how to make them, and they discussed with one another how to make the thrones.  They are learning important language skills!

Other friends made mobile castles with the waffle blocks.

Working our large motor muscles outside!

During morning meeting we sang a song that increases phonemic awareness.  Phonemic awareness is the ability to play with the sounds of language.  Research shows that children with a firm grasp of phonemic awareness are more successful readers.

Here is the song if you want to sing it at home:

I like to eat
I like to eat
I like to eat, eat apples and bananas

I like to eat
I like to eat
I like to eat, eat apples and bananas

Each time you switch the vowel sound (A, E, I, O, U) to make silly words.  The children love this song!!

During small group time the friends went on a shape hunt in the classroom.  They worked to draw the shapes that they saw.  This activity increases spatial awareness, writing skills, and shape recognition.

We painted with our watercolor paints too!

We then drew a picture of a castle and dictated to Ms. Emma about it.  This is another way to engage children's prior knowledge about castles.  It will also show the growth of the children from the beginning of the Castle Project to the end!

During second free choice time, we had fun playing castle with each other!

Some of the friends decided that they needed crowns for the castle, so they worked hard to create crowns.  This provided the perfect opportunity to engage in meaningful activities such as writing and cutting!

Some friends chose to continue painting at the easel!

Some friends worked collaboratively in the waffle blocks.

What would playing castle be without a ball?

During Jesus time, we acted out the story of the ten lepers.   We remembered that Jesus healed us from our sickness of sin even though we didn't deserve it.
