Happy New Year!
Today we celebrate Anabelle! We thank God for bringing Anabelle to our class!!
Happy Birthday Anabelle!
This morning the friends were excited to see one another! As you know, a large part of early childhood education is learning valuable social skills. Research shows that children with strong social skills are more likely to achieve academic success later in life.
Many of the friends were excited to read the new books! They are learning valuable pre-reading skills including print orientation, context clues from the pictures, and the love of books!
Building together is a great way to develop social skills!
We were able to run and play in the commons this morning!
During morning meeting, we played a rhyming match game. The children love to rhyme! This is something you can do with your child anytime: in the car, waiting at the doctor office, in the grocery store, etc.!
During small group time, we played an upper and lower case go fish game! God made all children unique, and success in this game is also unique. Success for some children is identifying both upper and lower case letters. Success for some children is identifying upper case letters. Success for some children is identifying the letter by hearing the sound. We celebrate all success in preschool!
We also worked together to sort snowmen. Sorting is a foundational reading skill!
We then explored texture. We discussed rough and smooth as we painted with various items. This not only allows children to expand their vocabulary, but it also allows an opportunity to experience rough and smooth in a hands on way.
During free choice time, some of the friends chose to practice the letters! (Don't forget that you can bring in items from home to add to our alphabet!)
Other friends worked hard to write cards for their friends and family. This provided a natural, child-initiated way to practice writing skills and sounding out words.
Brynne worked hard to make this creation with the rocks! Great job Brynne!
During Jesus time, we learned the story of Jesus teaching in the temple found in Luke 2:41-52. We learned that sometimes we don't want to study God's word. However, the bible is God's word and give us knowledge of salvation, telling us that Jesus is our Savior! Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can grow in our desire to learn about Jesus!
