This morning the friends were excited to see one another!  As you know, a large part of early childhood education is learning valuable social skills.  Research shows that children with strong social skills are more likely to achieve academic success later in life.

We were able to run and play in the commons this morning!

During chapel Mrs. Kuhlmann told us the story of the Wise Men following the star to find baby Jesus!  We learned that when we can find more about Jesus and His love for us in the bible!  If you don't have a children's bible at your house, please let me know.  We will be sure to get one for you!  :)

During morning meeting, we played a rhyming match game.  The children love to rhyme!  This is something you can do with your child anytime: in the car, waiting at the doctor office, in the grocery store, etc.!

During small group time, we played an upper and lower case go fish game! God made all children unique, and success in this game is also unique.  Success for some children is identifying both upper and lower case letters.  Success for some children is identifying upper case letters.  Success for some children is identifying the letter by hearing the sound.  We celebrate all success in preschool!

We also worked together to sort snowmen.  Sorting is a foundational reading skill!

We then explored texture.  We discussed rough and smooth as we painted with various items.  This not only allows children to expand their vocabulary, but it also allows an opportunity to experience rough and smooth in a hands on way.

During second free choice time, some friends chose to practice rhyming!

Some friends worked together to create a make-believe play scenario.  They are engaging in mature play.  Cognitive development happens in mature play!

Other friends worked hard to write cards for their friends and family.  This provided a natural, child-initiated way to practice writing skills and sounding out words.

We then had fun dancing to songs with the SMARTboard!
