Thursday, March 28th school will dismiss at 12:00.  Please pack your child a sack lunch on this day as there is no school lunch program, but we will still eat lunch before the end of the day.

There is no school March 29th-April 5th for Easter Break. We will return to school on Monday, April 8th.

We had a great day in school today!  Check out what we did!

We continued to build on our city!  We checked the map to decide what we should build next and where we should build it.  As we build, the children are learning valuable problem solving skills.

For example, one student was trying to tape two pieces of cardboard together, but one kept falling down.  The following conversation happened after the student attempted many times to tape the pieces together.
"Mrs. Douglas!  It keeps falling down!"
"Hmm...how could we fix that problem?"
"Well, I keep trying to hold them both, but when I get the tape the big one falls down!"
Another student said: "I can help you hold the pieces!"
Student one said: "Okay!  Let's try it!"

Allowing the children the opportunity to find a solution to their own problems helps the children to gain independence along with problem solving skills.  Furthermore, they are gaining confidence as they learn to solve their own problems!

Here is a sneak peek of the city so far:

The House

Chick-Fil-A
(might be more of a one person restaurant.  :) )

Preschool Tower
(also used to store unused boxes at the moment)

City Bus

Our electricity exploration from Thursday elicited some interesting conversations with the children.
"We can't have electricity in the city because it is made of boxes and the boxes might burn down!"
"Well we could use batteries!"

The discussion continued, and we decided to draw a picture what we think electricity looks like!

We then drew a collaborative picture of electricity!

The Tricky Mouse game is back by popular demand!  The children LOVE to guess which letter the mouse is hiding under.  This game allows the children to practice letter recognition.  We also practice the sounds of the letters in this game.
