Hurray for the sunshine today!!
Looking Ahead:

Thursday, March 28th school will dismiss at 12:00. Please pack your child a sack lunch on this day as there is no school lunch program, but we will still eat lunch before the end of the day.
There is no school March 29th-April 5th for Easter Break. We will return to school on Monday, April 8th.
We had a great day in school today! Check out what we did!
We continued to explore road maps in the new block center. We used the safety signs to help ensure that the cars in the block center were safe. We also expressed creativity as we built and created with the blocks and LEGOS.
Alma was excited to share pictures of her new baby sister! Congratulations to the Molander family on the birth of baby Mila!!
Tommy and Mackenzi worked together to sort the cups by color. As you well know by now, sorting is a foundational math skill!
We refined our fine motor skills as we colored, wrote, and created in the new writing center. The children are developing their fine motor skills and they are developing as writers!
We brainstormed what we should build in our dramatic play center. Each child offered a suggestion. Then, each child drew a map of his/her suggestion. We will use these maps and suggestions to vote on what we are going to build in our classroom!
Here is our completed web of the ideas and maps of what we should build.
We also practiced recognizing square, rectangle, triangle, circle, and trapezoid. We made a graph on the carpet using masking tape, and we began to search the classroom for items that are different shapes. We graphed the items on the graph. We noticed that it seemed easier to find square items than trapezoid items in the room! The children are not only practicing shape recognition, but they are also practicing one to one correspondence as they put one object in each box of the graph. Furthermore, they are learning how to organize information!
The children each had a turn to explain why we should build their structure. As the children explain why we should build their structure, they are learning valuable social skills including expressing their own ideas and opinions and learning to be respectful of other's ideas and opinions.
We then narrowed the suggestions down to three. We made a graph using the three suggestions, and each child had a turn to vote and write his/her name in the structure that he/she would like to build. Through this activity, the children are learning to use the graph to evaluate information.
We evaluated the graph and noticed that "A Big City" has the most votes right now, but "A House" only needs one more vote to be equal with "A Big City." We also noticed that "Church and School" has the least amount of votes. As we evaluate the graph, the children are learning valuable comparing and counting skills!
Mrs. Dose came in and read a book to us today! The book was filled with rhyming words, and we had fun rhyming with the words in the story. Rhyming is a pre-reading skill! Thank you Mrs. Dose for coming and reading to our class!!
