A few reminders:
Grandparents' Day is tomorrow Thursday, March 7th. :)

Friday, March 8th we have early dismissal at 12:00.  There is no school lunch program on this day, so please pack you child a sack lunch.  Thanks!

Check out what we did in school today!

We had fun creating in the art center!  As you well now by now, creative thinking is a higher level thinking skill.  Engaging in creative thinking leads to more cognitive development!

Some of the friends worked together to play house.  They resolved all conflicts on their own!  Conflict resolution is a large social skill that will benefit the children throughout their lives!

Some of the children independently initiated sorting between letters and numbers.  They are developing as readers and writers!

We continued to discuss road safety as the children made more signs for our road maps!  The children are learning to practice safe habits!

During Jesus time we read a story about Jesus' friend who betrayed Him.  We learned that Jesus was arrested even though He did nothing wrong.  He died because of the things we have done, and will do, wrong.  He loves us so much to go through all of that pain!  We learned that the most important part of the story is that Jesus did not stay dead; He rose again!  Because of His death and resurrection  we will go to heaven with Him.

We practiced recognizing letters as we hunted for treasure using a letter map. We had to be sure to follow the correct letter and not become mixed up with the other letters on the map!  This activity allows the children to practice recognizing letters, differentiating between two similar letters, visual discrimination, and fine motor skills.

We also drew a road map from our house to school.  We drew pictures of the things we see as we drive to school!  The children are incorporating their own experiences with our investigation of maps which will in turn help the children to assimilate the new knowledge about maps.

This activity can help the children learn foundational math skills such as using words to indicate position and location.  As the children describe their map, they use phrases such as:
"Target is next to my house."
"School is close to my house."
"The McDonald's sign is above the torn down building."

We then made a map of our hearts and drew pictures of all of the things that we love. Of course we drew a picture of Jesus on our hearts!  This activity enables the children to represent their feelings through their art constructions.  This is an important expressive skill for the children!  Furthermore, this activity encourages further fine motor development.

Mr. Debrick came to visit, and we showed him the maps of our hearts!
