Happy Monday!

Looking Ahead:

Friday, March 15th is Spirit Day! Wear red and black to show your Bobcat spirit!

Thursday, March 28th school will dismiss at 12:00.  Please pack your child a sack lunch on this day as there is no school lunch program, but we will still eat lunch before the end of the day.

There is no school March 29th-April 5th for Easter Break. We will return to school on Monday, April 8th.

We had a great day in school today!  Check out what we did!

We started the day creating with the play dough.  Play dough is a fun way for children to strengthen their fine motor skills!

Chase made a map with his play dough!

The children were discussing how our blocks were not very organized.  I asked them how we could solve this problem.  They decided that we could make signs for our blocks to keep them organized. They worked hard to trace the blocks and cut out the shapes.  We will tape their tracings in the block center to help keep our blocks organized.  Allowing the children to brainstorm ways to solve a problem and then allowing them to solve it in the way they decided allows the children to not only practice problem solving skills, but also gives them a chance to learn confidence!

Abby worked hard to count our stickers to match the numbers.  She is working on one to one correspondence, meaningful counting, and number recognition!

Each day, we review the alphabet together by pointing to the letters, saying them twice, and then saying a physical representation of the letter.  For example: A-A-Apple. This activity allows the children to practice letter recognition, practice the sounds of the letters, and also give the children a concrete object to help them remember the sound of the letter.  This activity helps to develop pre-reading skills!

We brainstormed what we should build in our dramatic play center.  Each child offered a suggestion.  Then, each child drew a map of his/her suggestion.  We will use these maps and suggestions to vote on what we are going to build in our classroom!

Here is our web so far of the ideas and maps of what we should build.

We moved our classroom around today!  The children really enjoyed writing in our new writing center.  As the children explore and write, they are developing as writers!

We also practiced recognizing square, rectangle, triangle, circle, and trapezoid.  We made a graph on the carpet using masking tape, and we began to search the classroom for items that are different shapes. We graphed the items on the graph.  We noticed that it seemed easier to find square items than trapezoid items in the room!  The children are not only practicing shape recognition, but they are also practicing one to one correspondence as they put one object in each box of the graph.  Furthermore, they are learning how to organize information!

We continued to explore road maps in the new block center.  We used the safety signs to help ensure that the cars in the block center were safe.  We also expressed creativity as we built and created with the blocks and LEGOS.
