Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great long weekend!
We had a great day in preschool!
Check out what we did!
We started the day making letters with the wood pieces. As the children use the wood pieces to make letters, they are developing as writers!
We also practiced reading and writing friends' names.
We then went on a leaf hunt in small groups! We used our senses to gather information about Fall. As we use our senses outside, we are learning moe about the world around us! The children said things such as:
"It sounds crunchy." and
"It looks colorful!"
When we returned, we graphed the leaves on a large graph on the carpet! We discussed how only one leaf goes in a box. As the children place one leaf in one box, they are practicing one to one correspondance. The children are practicing sorting as they group the leves by color. Furthermore, they are learning how to analyze data as we discuss which line has the most, which has the least, and if any lines are equal.
We put the leaves in the sensory table with some plastic bugs and tweezers. We dug in the leaves with the tweezers to find the bugs. As we dug, we refined our fine motor skills. The children were making observations about the leaves as they investigated. I heard the children say:
"This leaf is smushed!"
"This leaf is bigger than this leaf!"
"This leaf has a long stem!"
They also enjoyed searching for the animals and bugs!
We made leaf rubbings of our leaves too! Through the leaf rubbings, the children are able to practice their fine motor skills. They are also able to make observations about the leaves as they see the veins of the leaves through the rubbings.
We played in the pumpkin patch center. We practiced recognizing numbers, counting, and working together as we played! We continually practice positive social skills such as:
"How many minutes until my turn?"
"You can have a turn in four minutes."
Some of the friends graphed other items in the classroom too!
We worked on our writing skills as we made cards for others.
We also decorated leaves and pumpkins and hung them in the classroom! We used our creative skills as we decorated.
