Happy Friday!  We had a good day in preschool today!

Check out what we did!

We started the day making a group family portrait.  On a large sheet of butcher paper, each child drew his/her family.  We said, "Thank you God for our Families!"  As we complete this activity, the children are learning to identify the members of their family, and create a representation of them.  In addition, the children are working together and commenting on each other's drawings.  I heard phrases such as: "Wow!  You did a good job drawing your mom!" and "I like your family picture!"

Once again, all og my numbers kept getting jumbled!  The children helped me put the numbers in the correct order.  As they order the numbers they are not only practicing number sequence, but also number recognition.

We each said a line of the five little pumpkins finger play today. The finger play is helping us to learn rhythm, rhyme, and repetition!  These are foundational reading skills.  It is also fun!

We had an odd number of students today, so Emily did the poem by herself!  She did a great job!

We practiced writing in our journals.  As we write, we are refining our fine motor skills, recognizing letters, and learning the connection between spoken word and written print.

During Jesus time, we remembered out baptism.  We each blessed the friend next to us by dipping our finger in water, making the sign of the cross on our friend's head, and saying, "You are a child of God!"

During snack, we worked on sorting our cereal.  Sorting is a foundational math skill that will help the children with patterning!

We made pumpkin lanterns today!  These lanterns also serve as a cutting assessment for the children.  They were asked to cut on the line, but stop on the dot.  It is important to assess each child's individual gifts and talents to show the child's strengths and areas for growth.

We used money in the pumpkin patch today.  As the children play with the money, they are practicing recognizing numbers, counting, and one to one correspondance!

We continued to work on patterns today too!

We continued the process of our pumpkin art today.  Each child painted a sheet of paper orange.  We will use this painted paper to cut out a pumpkin.  Then, each child will paint a piece of paper black, and will use the black paper to cut out shapes for the pumpkin's face.  As the children complete this activity, they are refining their fine motor skills and expressing creativity.

Arianna was so proud of herself because she fixed her cot and her ponytail all by herself!  Great job Arianna!
