Welcome back for our second week of school!
I pray that you had a restful weekend out of the heat!  :)

On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, Ms. Emma is the aide in our classroom.  We are so thankful for Ms. Emma and all of her help, love, and care!!

The art center was quite popular this morning!  The friends loved the heart stickers that look like stamps!  Many friends chose to write letters to each other!

We also loved playing with the magna tiles this morning!  Magna tiles provide an opportunity to strengthen spatial relationship skills and problem solving.  Plus, they are super fun! :)

Some friends made a picnic too!

We went outside for a short while this morning.  We had fun running and playing even though it was hot.  (We are very thankful for our water bottles and our very cool classroom!)

During morning meeting, we sang songs together to help build and strengthen relationships with each other.  In this way, we create a community of learners!

We then chose our jobs for the day.  Classroom jobs allow children the opportunity to take ownership of the classroom and practice responsibility.

Each day we review our school schedule.  This is one of our classroom jobs!  As we review the daily schedule, we set the groundwork for future learning about time.  The schedule is a concrete way for children to begin to understand time, which is such an abstract concept.

As part of our morning meeting routine, and one of the classroom jobs, we also review the alphabet.  When we practice the alphabet we are learning the sounds of the letters and practicing letter recognition!  We noticed this morning that we are missing quite a few pictures from our alphabet chart.  We decided to go on a letter hunt during small group time to help finish our alphabet chart!

During small group time, we explored and created with our water color paints.  The children worked their fine motor skills and expressed themselves as they created.

We also brainstormed ways that we can show God's love.  As the children gave ideas, I wrote them down. Then, the children illustrated their idea.  We will post these ideas and illustrations in our classroom to remind us how we can show God's love to our friends throughout the year!

Matthew 22:36-39 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

We then went on a letter hunt! On the hunt, we recognizing some environmental print as we read the word EXIT.  Our friends were very excited because we saw so many exit signs!  I asked the children, "I wonder how many exit signs we have at school?"  The replied, "We could count them!"  What a great idea!  Later in the week, we will count our exit signs here at Zion!

Here are some of the things we found on our letter hunt:

Back in the classroom, we had some more time for free choice!  Look how our friends worked together  in the magna tiles today.  We practiced sharing and working together!

We worked together in the kitchen and blocks too!

Some friends worked to create in the art center!

During Jesus time, we read the creation story.  You can read this story at home too!  It can be found in Genesis 1:31-2:4. We learned that our God is powerful!  With just His words He created light!

We tried to create light with our words- it didn't work! We know that our God is powerful!  He is so powerful that He sent His son, Jesus, to die on the cross and rise again to save us!
