Everyone is getting used to new routines, even teachers and parents!  :)  A few reminders-

If you have not emailed or sent in a picture of your family, please do so as soon as possible.  Thank you!

When you drop off your child, don't forget to mark the lunch and after school care papers hanging above the snack bin.  Thank you!

Please be sure all snacks in the snack bin have your child's name on them.  There is a sharpie marker in the bin for your convenience.  :)  Thank you!

This week we are focusing on learning our school rules and routines.  We are also focusing on learning our friends names; this will help us to create a community to learners!

This morning we practiced writing our names at check in time.  Success for each child is different.  Success for some some children is recognizing their name.  Success for some children is writing some of the letters in their name. Success for some children is writing their name.  The great thing about preschool is that we celebrate each child's individual success!!

Puzzles were very popular this morning!  What a great way to strengthen spatial relationship skills and problem solving!

Other friends chose to build and create together in the block center!

We had our first fire drill this morning!  The friends did such a great job of following directions and staying safe!

After the fire drill, we were able to play outside!

During morning meeting we reviewed our class made alphabet chart.  We noticed quite a few letters don't have pictures! We decided that we should take pictures for the chart.  Sounds like a job for the coming weeks of school!  :)

We had fun getting our wiggles out during morning meeting too!

We then read a story about a Dinosaur going to school.  We had fun laughing about the dinosaur in the school. We decided that a dinosaur wouldn't even fit through the door of our new school!

Our friends so a great job being respectful and quiet in the hallway!

Snack time!

Back in the classroom we learned about our special journals!  These journals will be kept at school for the children to use at their leisure.  This provides an independent writing/creating place for the children to use time and time again.  It also provides an informal comparison of how the children's drawings change and develop throughout the year.
During small group time we wrote in our journals!

We also played an I Spy game with Ms. Emma.  This game helped us learn and practice each other's name.  We are working to develop a community of learners! As we develop relationships and bonds with each other, we create a safe environment that enhances learning, exploring, and inquiry.

We worked to identify the first letter of our name, and added our picture to the letter.  We are working together to create a classroom alphabet chart!

We then had time for more free choice!

Many of the friends set up a face painting station!  One of the roles of the teacher during free choice time is to extend and enhance student play.  The goal is to engage the children in high-level play.

"Knowing the characteristics of high-level play and being able to support these characteristics not only results in richer, more imaginative play, but also has a positive effect on the development of foundational skills, including cognitive and emotional self-regulation and the ability to use symbols.  These foundational skills in turn make it possible for the children to achieve higher levels of mastery of specific academic content, such as literacy" (Copple, 2012, p. 69).

During Jesus time we learned that Jesus loves us no matter what!  We also learned that we can show His love to our friends!  We brainstormed some nice things we could say and/or do to show God's love to each other!

We then went to the gym! (Oops! I left the camera in the classroom during gym time!)

We had another great day!!
