Happy Friday!

We had a great second week of school!

As you know, each morning the children work to sign into school!  This is a great time to recognize our name, learn how to write our name, and even start recognizing our friends' names! 

As we were playing party this morning, some of the friends made labels for the chairs so that they wouldn't lose their spot in the party! 

We headed outside to run and play! 

Victoria was the prayer leader today, and she helped us say a prayer asking God to bless our day! 

Prayer leader is one of our many classroom jobs.  Classroom jobs help the children learn responsibility and take ownership of our classroom.  

During small group time, we painted a letter D for our classroom door!  The children worked collaboratively to paint the D.  

We also worked together in the block center! 

We then worked with Mrs. Douglas and wrote signs for our bathroom reminding us to wash our hands and flush the potty.  Just as each child is unique, success for each child is also unique.  Success for some children is holding the pencil correctly.  Success for other children is writing letters correctly.  Success for other children is sounding out the words we write.  In preschool, we celebrate each child's individual success! 

During the second free choice time, the children worked to select which painting they wanted to hang on the wall.  They then dictated a phrase or two describing their artwork.  Look for the work hanging in the hallway soon! 

Some friends played with the magna tiles too!

Other friends wanted to do more collaborative artwork, so we placed a large piece of paper on the floor for them to do just that.

During Jesus time, we read the story of creation.  Our God is powerful!!  He created everything!  He also sent His son, Jesus, to die on the cross and rise again to save us from our sins!!

We had a lot of fun in the gym today too!! 

We had a great day in preschool!

Each morning, the children sign their name "check-in" to school.  This is a great time to practice writing skills with each child individually.

During morning free choice, some friends worked in the block center! 

Other friends read books together!  Although they are not able to read the words yet, the children are learning important pre-reading skills including the fact that words have meaning, we hold books and turn the pages a certain way, and print words are read from left to right. 

Zack worked at the sensory table strengthening his fine motor skills as he opened the straws.  

Other friends explored and created with the magna tiles! 

Still other friends got comfortable as they played house.  :)

During small group time, we worked collaboratively on a classroom canvas painting! Check out the finished product hanging in our classroom! 

We explored the Handwriting Without Tears wood pieces. Some children made letters, some children made creations.  Either way, as the children explore the straight and curvy lines, they are exploring the smaller parts used to write letters.  Learning about these parts will help the children as they write! 

We put what we learned about lines and curves into practice as we wrote in our journals. 

"Look!  I wrote two big curves!"

"I wrote small straight lines!"

During our second free choice time, we had a lot of fun playing birthday party together! 

The entire class was involved in this party of their own accord.  The children worked assigning various roles and planned their play.  Engaging in mature play where children plan and assign roles impacts children's cognitive, social, and emotional development.

Everyone was really excited about the magician coming to the party!

While Brynne worked to train the animals for her animal show! 

We all got comfortable for the shows.  

Some of the friends decided that we needed balloons at the party!  They worked hard to create balloons for everyone!
