Welcome Back to school on this cold Monday!!

This morning our friends had a lot of fun playing in the puppet theater.

Puppets are a great way to practice language skills, communication, and cooperation!  These are all valuable life skills! Puppets also provide a way for children to role-play with another various situations in a non-threatening way.

Joey worked hard to set up the chairs for the puppet show! Great persistence Joey!

Our estimation jar changed today too!  The friends can choose to estimate a number from 1-10.  The estimation jar is a great way to practice counting, quantifying, writing numbers, and of course estimating! These are all foundational math skills.  A strong foundation in early math skills is important for future math learning!

During morning meeting we practiced recognizing letters as we played tricky mouse! Our friends LOVE this game!  Letter recognition and letter/sound correlation are valuable pre-reading skills!

Then, each friend chose a word and helped me sound out the word for the writing center.  Sounding our the words together helps promote letter/sound correlation.

During small group time we expressed creativity as we made masks! As you know, creative thinking is a higher level thinking skill.  Engaging in creative thinking leads to further cognitive development!

We practiced writing the new words in our journals!

We also worked cooperatively with friends to complete a puzzle! Learning to work with friends in a positive way is a social skill that will benefit the children throughout their lives!

Friends also worked one on one with me to complete assessments.  Assessments are an important part of education as they provide an accurate picture of each child's strengths and areas for growth.  Assessments help us as teachers modify our teaching to fit each child's individual needs.

It was too cold for us to go outside today, so we danced together to get some exercise!

During Jesus time today we learned the story of Zaccheaus and Jesus.  You can find this story in the bible in Luke 19:1-10.  We learned that Zaccheaus sometimes stole from other people, but Jesus still loved him and forgave him.  Just like Jesus loved and forgave Zaccheaus, He also loves and forgives us!
